Man of the match:  MK Thunder: Mike Knights

Well this was a game that Thunder will want to forget in a hurry! They looked completely out of sorts and put in what was easily their worst performance of this season and probably last season as well. Bracknell are a fast skating and passing team and they found it easy to break through Thunder’s defence time almost at will. With Thunder’s forward lines slow to get back in support, their defence found themselves outnumbered by the onslaught of Hornet’s attack resulting time and again in the home side having the spare man on the far post to slot in the goal. Mark Woolf played valiantly in goal but, having saved the initial shot, he was faced with having to try and keep out the first, second, and sometimes third rebound when Thunder failed to clear the puck from in front of goal.

Having said all that, Thunder looked bright in the opening five minutes taking the game to Bracknell, indeed it was Thunder’s Jamie Holland that opened the scoring in the fifth minute with an unassisted goal. Hornets then switched on and were level three minutes later before opening a two goal lead before the end of the period.

The home side then made it 4-1 within seconds of the start of the second period. A second Jamie Holland goal at 32:59, assisted by Dan Chaplen, was the culmination to Thunder’s attempt to get back into the game which had seen some good possession coupled with desperate defence. From that point it was all downhill for Thunder, they conceded a powerplay goal three minutes later to go into the last period 5-2 down and then inexplicably lost the final period 8-0! Thunder replaced an exhausted Mark Woolf at 45:31 with Kevin McGurk taking the unenviable position between the posts for the remainder of the game.
