Having been humbled in Bracknell the night before, Thunder faced a massive task to lift themselves for the return game of this double header but were determined to atone for their performance the show the spirit that defines this team.

Things didn’t start well though with Hornets quickly going into a two goal lead with two short handed goals during just one penalty! Thunder once again guilty of leaving an opposition player unmarked on the back post. By mid period Hornets were 3-0 up and it looked like a possible repeat of the previous evening, but Thunder managed to calmed things down and get into the game with some decent hockey. Jacob Heron led the way with a typically determined chasing down of the puck to score Thunder’s opener assisted by Keiron Goody, and just before the period break man of the match Ross Horsley made it 2-3 finishing off a good cross ice pass from Dan Chaplen.

Thunder were now really in the game and chasing down the puck, keeping it in the Bracknell zone for long periods but couldn’t find the killer finish to get level. Meantime they were susceptible to Bracknell’s fast breakouts with the visitors restoring a two goal lead at 26:24. Keiron Goody pulled it back to 3-4 with a powerplay goal at 31:26 assisted by Jacob Heron, but again Thunder succumbed to Hornets rush and went into the final period 3-5 down.

Two further goals from Bracknell made it 3-7 before eventually Jamie Holland got Thunder’s fourth just before the final buzzer.

So a marked improvement in performance, but a number of basic mistakes cost Thunder this game so they will need to be addressed with some urgency.
