In their last cup game of the
season, Thunder decided to ice a full forward line of U18s with both Jamie Cox
and Harrison Goode making their debuts and joining Martyn Snape on the fourth
line.
By the end of the game, there was
nothing to choose between the teams as the Coventry outfitted has improved
throughout the season and are now a real threat against any opposition. It was
Coventry that opened the scoring with a third minute powerplay goals from Tom
Pease. Carl Stevenson equalised for Thunder at 7:45 as the game swung from end
to end. Ivan Turan gave Thunder the go-ahead goal at 13:36 with a powerplay
effort and it looked like the home side would hold on to their lead going into
the period break, but back came Blaze with two goals in the last minute to take
the lead, Chris Wilcox and Joe Henry the scorers.
Although the second period produced
no more goals, the play was still frantic end to end stuff with both teams
trying to find an opening and an advantage.
It wasn’t until midpoint in the final period that Thunder found that opening and
Mike Knights slotted home the equaliser on another powerplay. 3-3 was the final
score and in end honours even was the right outcome. Using that old cliché,
Thunder can now concentrate on the league!
