MK Thunder 4 v 6 Chelmsford Chieftains

Invicta Dynamos 10 v 0 MK Thunder

7th November – Chelmsford Chieftains

Saturday’s home game against the unbeaten Chieftains was always going to be a difficult one, but conceding the first goal within forty seconds hardly helped the cause. Chelmsford dominated the first two periods, winning both 3-1, while Thunder never really got going and were forced into defending deeply for most of the time. Thunder’s two goals were scored by Tom Roles assisted by Mike Knights and Jacob Heron, and Jamie Holland assisted by Tom Roles.

The Thunder period saw a total transformation in Thunder’s play, they came out and attacked as a team, taking the play to Chieftains for the whole period, Thunder’s reward was to win the period 2-0 through a Mike Knights unassisted goal, and Jamie Holland’s second of the night assisted by Tom Roles and Jacob Heron. Although the final score of 4-6 was respectable against one of the top sides, had Thunder played all three periods as they did the third, it would have been totally different result.

8th November – Invicta Dynamos

Sunday’s away trip to take on table topping Invicta Dynamos was dogged by illness and injury. With seven players missing, Thunder iced a very young team in the ice bowl and were taken apart in the first period by a fast skilful Dynamos outfit. The game was effectively over by the end of the period with Invicta 5-0 up and Thunder not getting into the game. The second period was much better as Thunder calmed down, stemming the flow of Dynamos attacks and creating some offence of their own with their young forward lines showing some new found determination in the opposition zone. With Dynamos taking the period 1-0, Thunder were trailing 6-0 going in to the last period where a combination of tiredness caused by having only two lines, and lack of concentration allowed Invicta to stamp their authority on the game again putting another four unanswered goals in to end up 10-0 winners. Thunder will be hoping they have players back for the return game this weekend.
