Man of the Match:          Aidan Mahmud

Thunder went into this away game knowing that they had to take the points in order to maintain their chances of making the play-offs, but their performance never really lived up to that ambition as their opponents out worked them on the night. When, for brief spells, Thunder actually turned on the gas, they were obviously the better team but as a unit never put enough effort into this game.

Having said that, Thunder got off to the best possible start when Tom Roles opened the scoring with a second minute powerplay goal assisted by Aidan Mahmud. They then spent most of the rest of the opening period killing off penalties as they repeatedly got called for minor infractions and the Coach was probably pleased to get to the break with their 0-1 lead intact.

The second period belonged to Swindon as they pressurised the Thunder defence and were first to nearly every 50/50. Their effort was rewarded at 33:06 when Ryan Burgess levelled the score. Three minutes later and Wildcats were in front through Sam Feeney and then maintied the lead to the end of the period.

Aidan Mahmud equalised for Thunder at 47:38 and for ten minutes after that it looked possible that Thunder might scrape a point out of the game, but three minutes from the end Scott Gough put Wildcats in front again. A time out followed for Thunder to obviously decide when to pull Woolf from goal for the extra skater and with a minute to go Wollf came to the bench. With a man advantage Thunder besieged the Swindon goal but couldn’t find the equaliser and with seconds to go the puck popped out for Swindon to score an empty net goal to win 4-2.
