MK Man Of The Match – Dan Chaplen

MK Thunder went into their first double header weekend of the season looking to continue the improvement shown in their cup encounter with Solihull the week before.

Saturday saw the Milton Keynes side travel to the Isle of Wight to take on the newly formed Vectis Tigers in the League. In fact, this was the Tigers first ever game and it showed as Thunder outplayed them from the start. Knowing that playing in such a small rink requires completely different team tactics, Coach Knights had his team well prepared to take the game to Tigers. Josh White got Thunder off to a great start when he opened the scoring in the third minute. Two goals from man of the match Dan Chaplen gave Thunder a 0-3 lead at the end of the first period.

Three more goals in the second period with only a single reply from Vectis Tigers and the game was in effect over. Tom Roles scored the visitors fourth followed by a neat breakaway short-handed goal from Dan Chaplen, with Aidan Mahmud making it 1-6 going into the last period.

With the game won, Thunder eased up slightly and changed netminders mid-period, Kim Talyor replacing the impressive Mark Woolf between the pipes. Aidan Mahmud made it 1-7 at 50:38 and Dan Chaplen took is personal tally to four and Thunders to eight before Tigers scored what was a consolation second to end the game 2-8 to the Thunder.
