Vectis Tigers must have been dreading
their first ever visit to the Thunderdome. Having been soundly beaten by Thunder
in their inaugural game on home ice back in September, the visitors knew what to
expect on the much bigger ice surface in Milton Keynes.
Pavol Hudak, Thunder’s recently signed
second import, didn’t take long to have an impact on the game, scoring his first
Thunder goal on a powerplay in the fifth minute. Unfortunately for Hudak and
Thunder, the Slovak collided with the boards later in the game and left the ice
with a fractured shoulder. David Coffey made it 2-0 a minute later and Sam
Fairhurst kept the momentum going with an unassisted goal in the seventh minute.
The visitors had no answer to Thunder’s superior play and spent most of the
opening period restricted to defence in their own zone with netminder Treadwell
facing 24 shots in the period to Woolf’s 4 at the other end. James Roberts made
it 4-0 by mid period and but for some fine saves from Treadwell, Thunder could
have had many more.
The second period followed a similar
pattern with Thunder scoring another three goals, Tom Roles, and two from man of
the match Aidan Mahmud. Both Vectis Tigers and Thunder changed netminders mid
period, with Kim Taylor replacing Mark Woolf in Thunder’s goal and Aaron Taylor
replacing Treadwell for the visitors.
At 7-0 up, Thunder eased off in the last period but still took the score to 9-0
by the forty eighth minute with goals from Tom Roles and Dan Chaplen. Tigers
managed a consolation powerplay goal mid-period through Graham MacFarlane, but
in the end were totally out classed in this game. |
